God is at Work

I am amazed at Gods plan. He takes a man – Moses – and asks him to do what appears to be the impossible. Lead the people out of Egypt, from under the oppression of one of the world’s fiercest rulers. What follows are amazing miracles that were surely beyond his wildest imagination, and a journey that tests the people as well.

God knows the beginning and the end for this journey, but Moses knows nothing! I can’t imagine how Moses felt when God set him to this task. Doubt and fear, as well as a myriad of other shortcomings and emotions came flooding into his mind, some of which we see at the beginning of the story in Exodus. Yet God had His plans for Moses and the people of Israel, and He would be the one to fulfill them; through all the trials and tedium of Exodus, Leviticus and the rest of the story.

Today, we are a people “saved” through Christ Jesus because those called by God chose to move when he spoke. His plan prevailed in your life and mine. This makes me stop and reflect on the times that we are called by the Lord to do His work. How many times have we perhaps felt overwhelmed, and none of us have been asked to move a nation from out of the control of ruthless leader.

I know that I have felt overwhelmed at times doing what I felt the Lord has guided me to do, but in the process of being obedient, I have been blessed to see God do amazing things in my life. As I look at our church, I see a community being asked to step out and follow our Lord in complete faith. Are we under oppressive rule? No.

But we have been asked to become an obedient people.

I look around at the people here and I see some pretty cool things happening. I see a people that are standing in faith, and in unity, with direction. None of us know the end result, only God does. I really feel that the Lord is calling all of us to step out of our comfort zones, perhaps now more than ever. We don’t face the same perils as the Israelites, but these are perilous time none the less.

While physical seas may not be parting, the sea of Modern Christianity is being parted. I see a world where we need to stand strong in the Lord, in obedience and complete faith; standing in the light and the Word of the Lord; listening for the guidance of the Holy Spirit; being ready to go forth and do what may seem like the impossible or even perhaps feeling like He must have picked the wrong person for the job like Moses felt so many times. God makes no mistakes. If you feel He called you to do something then it is you that He wants to use.

Moses never had any idea of what he would be a part of doing, nor would he ever had found out if he didn’t listen. He didn’t know how to lead a people or build a tent of meeting for the Lord. Did it take some prodding? Perhaps. But in the end he followed God. God does some very amazing things through people like you and me. As for me, I’m going to be 57 this year and I feel like He is just beginning to show me what He wants me to do. It has been an amazing ride with Him over the last 9 years.

Every time the Lord uses me to accomplish something, that’s when I really find out who I am and what I can do through His strength. So my friends – be ever vigilant to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit… and act on it. See how amazing God really is. The God of today is the same God we’re reading about and His desire is still to work in and through our lives.
