The God Who Hears Our Cries

The post today comes from yesterday’s reading, from Ruth King, our Holywood Director, is one that is a “now word” for our congregation. I hope that it encourages you as it encouraged me to abide in the Love of Christ in the midst of our troubles.

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

Exodus 2:23-25

I have rewritten this blog post several times since this afternoon. When I read the designated Scripture passage for the day, it resonated with me differently this morning compared to tonight. As I write this, I am faced with the reality that my Grandfather has passed away due to a car accident earlier this afternoon. This morning, the passage about the Lord hearing the cries of the Israelites was far less real to me than it is now. Their cry for rescue was heard and the Lord had a plan in place to save the Israelites from slavery.

The Israelites pain did not go unnoticed, and neither does the pain of my family. These simple verses offered me a sense of heavenly comfort which can only be found from the revelation of God’s word. It is comforting to know that the Lord hears the cries of my younger brother as he mourns the loss of a close relative.

Regardless of where you find yourself today, take comfort from the fact that the Lord hears your cries and He remembers you. Although our troubles usually do not go away overnight, and tomorrow will be just as hard for my family as today was, I find comfort in the fact that the Lord hears my cries, and has a plan to use this suffering for His greater purpose of good.
